Born and raised in Bulgaria, Svetla Atanasova moved to Montreal in 2005 to pursue a photography career.
Trained as a classical ballerina at a very young age, through the years she has developed a tender passion for visual arts and performance which she later used in her photography work. After obtaining her BA and MA in linguistics, literature and translation from Sofia University in Bulgaria and McGill University in Montréal, she continued her education in Photography at Dawson College in Montreal, where she won the Bob Acciaro Special Award and her work was featured in a group exhibition at Les Ateliers Jean-Brillant in the city.
After her graduation, Svetla has been working with art and business clients such as Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Danse Danse, l’Agora de la Danse, Tangente-Laboratoire de mouvements contemporains, Louise Bédard Dance Company, MAI-Montréal arts interculturel art center, Usine C, FTA-international dance and theatre festival in Montreal, le festival Le Temps d’Images, Actoral-Festival international des arts & des écritures contemporaines, festival Phenomena, MUBI, Forbes, to name a few.
